Vik
Muniz inaugura sua primeira mostra individual na Galeria Nara
Roesler no dia 2 de abril às 18h. Em Espelhos
de papel serão exibidas obras da série Pictures of Magazine 2,
inédita no Brasil.
Tendo mais uma vez a fotografia como objeto final de sua produção, Vik se
apropria de imagens rasgadas de revistas, inserindo ícones da mídia de
massa em reinterpretações de pinturas clássicas.
Segundo Christopher Turner, autor do texto crítico da exposição, "a
multiplicidade de imagens utilizadas para compor suas colagens acrescenta
uma terceira camada mediadora, que envolve ainda mais o público e faz
referência a toda a bagagem visual e cultural que cada um traz ao seu
encontro com a arte". Até 11 de maio.

Vik Muniz opens his first solo show at
Galeria Nara Roesler on April 2 at 6PM. In Espelhos de papel (Paper mirrors), artworks from
the series
Pictures of Magazine 2,
never before shown in Brazil, will be exhibited.
Having
once
again the photograph as the final object of his production, Vik appropriates images torn from magazines, inserting mass media
icons in reinterpretations of classic paintings.
According to
Christopher Turner, author of the critical essay on the exhibition,
"the multiplicity of imagery used to compose his collages adds a mediating,
third layer that further ensnares the viewer and makes reference to all the
cultural and visual baggage they bring to their encounter with art".
