Extramurs. Elena del Rivero.
Transiting La
Quema
The Museu Tàpies invites you to the opening of the
2025 edition of Extramurs (Extramural), a
project in collaboration with Festival Grec, Eina Centre Universitari de
Disseny i Art, Centre d'Art La Capella, Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi,
Galeria Senda and Loop Festival.
Extramurs is
held annually, in coordination and exchange with different artists,
organisations and institutions. The project sees the city as a space for
enunciation and intervention. To think based on action—and act based on
reflection—about public space and the environment, with the aim of
opening up and proposing an analysis of our surroundings and how we can
inhabit the world in a more conscious and integrating way, both in
spatial and temporal terms.
The gesture of considering the walls in public space as bearers of
residents’ voices, locations where collective discourses are materialised
and shared experiences find new meanings, connects us directly with
contemporary demands. Each new edition of Extramurs is
developed by a different artist and, as its name suggests, organises and
generates interventions beyond the Museu Tàpies’ exhibition spaces.
At the same time, other spaces in the museum (a staircase, the façade)
enter into dialogue with some spots in the city and with places proposed
by other institutions (one of the courtyards of Eina Obra, the Jardins
Rubió i Lluch, the Office space in La Capella). In other words, locations
that embody action with the desire to let bodies inhabit ideas.
Elena del
Rivero is the artist invited to participate in Extramurs 2025,
curated and accompanied by Mateo Feijóo. Transiting La Quema is based on an
initial action, La
Quema (The Burning), carried out in Galicia, documented
through images and sound recordings that have played a key role in
shaping the project. The artist’s pieces were burnt in October 2024,
after being exhibited in various homes and spaces in the village.
Symbolic destruction, purification and renewal are the elements linked
through dialogue with the urban and architectural spaces that will be
intervened in Barcelona.
Transiting La Quema includes the
concert for church bells L'espai alliberat [Liberated
Space], by Llorenç Barber, in collaboration with music students from the
ESMUC and the Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona, among
others. The concert will take place on 8 July at 19:30 h in the
Jardins Rubió i Lluch, as part of the Grec Festival,
inaugurating the 2025 edition of the Extramurs project. The
venue will open at 18:30 h.
We
look forward to seeing you!
