José Carlos Martinat na Galeria Leme

JOSÉ CARLOS MARTINAT EJERCÍCIOS SUPERFICIALES SOBRE DISPOSITIVOS DE DELEITE Abertura: 20 de junho Em sua segunda exposição individual na Galeria Leme, o peruano José Carlos Martinat dá sequência à sua investigação crítica e social, agora aplicada a outras técnicas e elementos urbanos. O artista tem como primordial em seu trabalho a exploração e discussão de aspectos políticos, econômicos e sociais, normalmente associados aos seus respectivos contextos culturais. Martinat pensa e realiza sua obra no lugar no qual será exibida para que esta crie um diálogo com o local e atinja o espectador da forma mais contundente possível. Em sua nova série de trabalhos o artista utiliza folhas de alumínio para se apropriar de esculturas públicas. Ao colocar estas folhas sobre bustos, estátuas, monumentos e afins, e moldá-las sobre o objeto em questão, o resultado são esculturas superficiais, finas e delicadas, porém ainda com a sisudez comum proveniente do trabalho original. Martinat utiliza a rua como seu molde e se aproveita dela para realizar cópias de elementos que a ele interessam. Suas ações na rua são realizadas sempre de maneira independente, criando uma ambiguidade no processo. O espectador se depara com obras conhecidas de seu cotidiano transportadas para o espaço da galeria. Com uma estética muito diferente do que se vê em seus espaços originais, a obra se torna uma releitura visual do que se entende como banal no espaço de uma cidade. The artist has as main focus the exploration and discussion of political, economic and social aspects, usually associated with its respective cultural contexts. Martinat thinks and realizes his work in the site where it will be exhibited in order to create a close dialogue with the place and to reach the spectator in the most contusing way. In his new series of works the artist uses aluminum sheets to make appropriations of public sculptures. When putting the sheets onto a torso, statue, monument or other and molding it on the selected object, the results are superficial sculptures, thin and delicate, but still carrying the serious visage that comes from the original work. Martinat uses the street as his mold and takes advantage of it to copy elements that interest him. His actions on the street are always made in an independent way, generating an ambiguity aspect in his process. The spectator encounters known works from one's quotidian, transported to the gallery space. With a really different aesthetic approach from the ones seen in their original spaces, the work becomes a visual rereading of what one may consider trite in the city space.
